Cthyllamon inhabits the depths of the Net Ocean, and is known by the alias "Phantom of the Ocean" due to the fact that only the skull pattern on its chest can be seen floating eerily in the dark sea. Instead of actively fighting on its own, it employs aquatic Digimon that are a lower Level than itself by brainwashing them, and has a crafty and cunning disposition. Because of its appearance, and since it is rarely ever seen, it shares many similarities with Marin Angemon, but the relationship between them remains unknown. Its Special Move "Ocean Hell", in which it steals the opponent's fighting spirit with an aura of endless terror akin to the darkness at the depths of the sea, sometimes reduces Digimon that suffer this technique to being Cthyllamon's puppets. Its "Buccal Rush", in which it opens its mouth wide and attacks with its three long, flexible tongues in a whip-like manner, and its "Aqua Grinder", where it generates an intense whirlpool that bores into the opponent's body like a drill, possess destructive power that is unimaginable from its tiny physique.
